A $20.8 million solar energy project in the Town of Evans got a green light for $4.1 million in tax breaks from the Erie County Industrial Development Agency.
Solar Liberty is constructing a pair of solar arrays that will generate 8.25 megawatts of electricity. Located at 7612 and 7690 Southwestern Blvd., the project on 33 acres of vacant land would include 22,308 solar panels mounted on steel racking anchored to the ground, and 66 inverters to convert the solar power to electricity.
Construction will take seven months. Upon completion, Solar Liberty would then sell the project to Houston-based Catalyze Holdings, which would operate it.
Under its new renewable energy policy, which includes solar, the ECIDA approved $3.62 million in property tax savings over 20 years and $525,000 in sales tax relief for the project, the costs of which include $11.4 million in manufacturing equipment and $6.6 million in non-manufacturing equipment, plus $1.9 million in infrastructure expenses.
Solar Liberty also agreed to a $451,032 host community agreement.
