City Mission Gets Big Solar Power Boost (VIDEO)
BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – Buffalo’s City Mission is getting a boost in going green. A new program will help more organizations save money and power.
The power of the sun will provide big-time budget relief in one of the major expenses for the City Mission.
Officials unveiled a solar panel system that will supply electricity to the homeless shelter. Plus, thanks to legislation sponsored by State Senator Antoine Thompson, if there’s more than they need, the excess can be sold to the utilities at full retail value. Solar Liberty of Buffalo donated the panels, which can produce 53 kilowatt-hours of electricity each year.
Adam Rizzo, CEO of Solar Liberty, said, “The system will offset the building’s carbon footprint by 919 tons of carbon dioxide, which is the equivalent to planting a forest of 37,000 trees.”
Stuart Harper of the Buffalo City Mission said, “This new solar system will allow us to more effectively serve those thousands of men, women and children that come through our doors each day.”
