USDA REAP Grant for Solar Power
Solar Liberty is excited to offer information about the Rural Energy for America Program (REAP) Renewable Energy Systems & Energy Efficiency Improvement Guaranteed Loans & Grants program. This program provides guaranteed loan financing and grant funding to agricultural producers and rural small businesses for renewable energy systems or to improve energy efficiency.
Benefits of Applying
By applying for the REAP program, agricultural producers and small businesses can save money on energy costs and increase their energy efficiency. They can also reduce their carbon footprint and contribute to a cleaner environment.
With the USDA REAP grant, you can install renewable energy systems such as solar panels or wind turbines, which can help offset your energy costs. It can save you money on your monthly utility bills and provide a significant return on investment over time.
For example, let’s say a NY dairy farmer installs a 30-kW solar energy system on their farm using the USDA REAP grant. Assuming the system generates an average of 120 kWh of electricity daily, the farmer could save over $1,000 monthly on energy bills. Over a year, this could add up to over $12,000 in savings.
Furthermore, suppose the dairy farmer makes energy-efficiency improvements such as installing more efficient lighting, upgrading to energy-efficient equipment, and improving insulation. In that case, they can save even more on their energy bills. The USDA REAP grant can also provide funding for these improvements, making it easier for farmers to implement cost-saving measures.
It is important to note that the savings will depend on various factors, such as the size of the solar energy system, the amount of energy generated, and the efficiency improvements made. However, the USDA REAP grant can provide significant cost savings and help farmers, including those in the dairy industry, reduce their energy costs and improve their bottom line.
Agricultural producers, with at least 50% of their gross income from farming operations, and small businesses in eligible rural areas may apply for the program. The eligible area must have a population of 50,000 residents or less, and applicants must have NO outstanding delinquent federal taxes, debt, judgment, or debarment. Applicants can apply year-round at their local office.
Funds are for renewable energy systems such as biomass, geothermal, hydropower, hydrogen, wind, and solar generation. Funds may also be used for energy-efficiency improvements. These include, but are not limited to, HVAC systems, insulation, lighting, cooling or refrigeration units, doors and windows, electric, solar, or gravity pumps for sprinkler pivots, switching from diesel to electric irrigation motor, and replacement of energy-inefficient equipment. Agricultural producers may also use guaranteed loan funds to install energy-efficient equipment and systems for agricultural production or processing.
