Residents interested in using solar energy to power their houses are invited to a meeting on Sept. 15 to learn more about the Solarize campaign.

The meeting will take place from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at The Queensbury Hotel.

The event is sponsored by the Southern Adirondacks for Solar campaign and supported by the Queensbury Clean Energy Community.

The Solarize program provides pre-qualified solar panel installers with incentives from the state Energy Research and Development Authority and free site assessments and quotes for solar panels, according to a news release. There are also state and federal tax credits available.

There will be testimonials from four local citizens who have installed solar panels on their homes and representatives from Solar Liberty.

The city is trying to get at least 10 households to commit to solar projects to check off one of the criteria it needs to obtain certification as a Climate Smart Community.
