The City of Rochester debuted a home on Monday that produces as much energy as it uses.

The home on Jerold Street was rehabilitated through the HOME Rochester program. It uses electricity and no fossil fuels, according to city officials, with the electricity coming from solar panels and the city’s electric grid.

One of the home’s builders says there are tons of benefits to the home.

“The house is going to be very, very economical as far as utilities are concerned. Not only that, it also collects because it has solar panels,” said Eugenio Cotto of the Greater Rochester Housing Partnership.

You can tour the house on Sunday, April 14 during the Celebrate City Living program.
