The Solarize Lockport campaign, a state-funded effort to persuade Lockport residents to consider buying solar panels to power their homes, will continue with a promotional event from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday in Cornerstone Arena, Chestnut and Market streets.

Free admission and skate rental will be available. Another information session is set for 6 to 8 p.m. Sept. 27 in City Hall.

Since the program started June 21, five residents have signed contracts with Solar Liberty, the state-approved contractor, to have solar arrays installed, said Brian M. Smith, city planning and development director. The city and Solar Liberty set a goal of signing up 20 customers by Oct. 12, Smith said.

Fifty residents have obtained free assessments of how solar power would effort their individual utility bills.
