A solar battery system can help New York homeowners lower their electric bills and increase resiliency against power outages. Solar batteries can easily integrate into a new or current solar system to create a supply of low-cost clean energy for your home. NSYERDA offers a Residential Energy Storage Program for the install of home battery systems through approved contractors. This will allow homeowners to potentially qualify for a solar battery rebate.

Do I Qualify for a Solar Battery Rebate?

Your battery project must meet the following requirements:

  • Be a 25 kilowatt or less sized system
  • A new project that is both permanent and stationary
  • Can be standalone storage or paired with a solar PV system
  • System must be electrically interconnected to the distribution grid
  • The energy storage system must be placed in-service by December 31, 2030
  • Installed through a participating contractor

In addition to the mentioned list, your project needs to meet one of the following criteria:

  1. Project location in a disadvantaged community
  2. Household Income Requirements: Have a documented household income under 80% of Area Median Income or State Median Income
  3. Service a 1–4-unit affordable housing property with 50% of the units having household income less than 80% of AMI or SMI

Solar Liberty is a qualified contractor and will inspect your location to determine the best system size, placement, and battery technology for your home. As a NYSERDA approved contractor we will submit all necessary paperwork on your behalf and determine if your site qualifies.

Additional Incentives for Battery Storage Owners

In addition to NYSERDA’s Residential Energy Storage Program, local utility companies offer battery programs. These programs can lead to an additional earning of $250 per year. During the summer month’s battery storage can alleviate pressure on NY’s electric grid. Homeowners can participate in a program that allows the utility company (NYSEG, National Grid, and Orange/Rockland) to discharge your battery during periods of peak demand.

Program Details

If you choose to enroll in a power sharing program your system will automatically discharge to the utility grid during peak demand days.

  • From May 1 – September 30th
  • Between 2pm and 10pm when the grid is most active
  • The utility cannot pull power more than 60 times during this active period
  • A max of 4 hours per event
  • You are allowed to opt out of the program at any time
  • System rate of $50 per kW performed (can average out to $250 a year)

Make the Most of Your Battery

A home battery does more than keep your lights on during an outage. Paired with solar, it gives you more control over when and how you use your clean energy. Not sure if your home qualifies? As a NYSERDA approved contractor, Solar Liberty will assess your property and recommend the right battery system for your needs.
